Brenham Pallasite
"The Becky-Stone"
This Brenham pallasite was recovered in late April, 2006, in a portion of a documentary being shot by Discovery/Travel Channel with their host, Becky Worley. This specimen is a quite rare flight-oriented meteorite. Flight-oriented meteorites or oriented meteorites are those which enter the Earth's atmosphere without spinning or tumbling and thus are preferentially ablated on its leading face. The results of such preferential ablation create an awesome-looking parabolic curve, which is often symmetrical. Here, this Brenham pallasite weighing over 90 pounds has had its surface shaped by atmospheric ablation into an almost bullet-shaped form or nose-cone. Less than 1% of all meteorites are oriented meteorites and, combined with being a rare pallasite in composition, the resultant specimen is an extraordinarily rare and very desirable meteorite.
The show in which this specimen will appear is scheduled to air on December 19, 2006, on the Discovery Travel Channel. You can view the website for the show HERE.
